Can I wear nail polish?
Since vacance’s debut line is a set of cuticle oils, we’re not surprised these are commonly asked questions:
- Can I wear nail polish while using cuticle oil?
- Does cuticle oil still benefit me while wearing nail polish?
- Can cuticle oil penetrate my nail beds if I have nail polish on?
- Does having different kinds of nail polish, e.g. regular air dry, gel nails, acrylics, press-ons, or other nail enhancements affect how much I benefit from cuticle oil?
So today we want to clear things up for our nail girlies out there!
The short answer? Yes, you will benefit from cuticle oil no matter what nail polish you have on.
The long answer? Let’s get into it.
Cuticle oil delivers benefits to your skin area around the nails along with the nail itself. This means whether you have polish on or not, vacance can still help you prevent hang nails, peeling cuticle area, and inflamed skin on your fingers.
If you’ve ever used nail polish remover and felt your nail area have a slight sting or burn, it’s likely you might have had some sort of open wound such as your cuticle area being detached from the nail. Cuticle oil will help your cuticles stay healthy and attached to the nail.
Beyond that, using cuticle oil can help keep your manicures (and pedicures) in good condition! Think of it like this: When your nails are healthy, they’ll do a better job at keeping your nail enhancements in tact. When you have nail polish on, but your nails are prone to brittleness, your nail can split at the free edge / tip area, and nail polish attached to that area can peel off along with your nail (This is especially an UGH moment if you just painted those nails yesterday, you know?)
Many users swear by applying cuticle oil under the free edge of their nail as well. This is beneficial if you feel you commonly have dry or peeling skin in that area. We’ve noticed this tends to happen if you use the nail cleaner piece of a nail clipper often — digging this under the free edge to get dirt out can sometimes detach the skin from the nail if you push too deep.
Lastly, our founder Jo is an avid nail artist herself — in fact, vacance was created BECAUSE she paints her nails so much and uses nail polish remover, thus putting her hands in contact with a lot of stronger substances. This caused dry skin, inflammation, and brittle nails — so she wanted a solution (literally) that would combat these nail problems.
So there you have it — enjoy nail polish to your heart's content!
