3 Foods for Healthy Nails
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok recently, and you’ve come across #skintok, you’re probably no stranger to the variety of recommended products for glowing skin, or the buzzwords of ingredients being tossed around as miracle solutions to skin issues.
But where we need to start is what we’re putting into our bodies. The same goes for hand and nail health. While a good hand care routine is essential, what we eat plays a crucial role in promoting stronger, healthier nails and cuticles. I’m all for fries and ice cream nights, but as you’ve probably heard before, “everything in moderation”
So what should we be eating for optimal cuticle health?
-
Protein-rich foods: eggs, lean meats, legumes (tofu, beans), fish
Keratin is a type of protein that makes up your outer skin, nails, and hair. These foods will provide the necessary amino acids to support nail and skin growth.
-
Biotin-rich foods: sweet potatoes, seeds, nuts, spinach
A study by the NIH found that women with brittle nails showed improvement in nail thickness.* Please consult a medical professional before taking any supplements, but eating healthy can’t hurt!
-
Zinc-rich foods: Beef, pumpkin seeds, oats, pomegranates
Zinc is essential to promoting tissue and nail growth by supporting the proteins in your body. It can help you avoid brittle and splitting nails.
These are just 3 types of the many foods out there we’ve seen to help nail and cuticle health. Nail health is a journey and we're so glad to be a part of yours.
